Week of Firsts
It has been a full week of new beginnings for us, especially for Rebekah. She began her first week of Kindergarten on Monday. She loved every moment and has taken to academic life like a fish to water. She has a wonderful teacher and some very nice new friends in her class. She is especially fond of lunch time. She can hardly wait to tell me what she ate for lunch each afternoon as she gets off the bus and walks home. I'm very proud of my baby girl!
The night before school started I asked her some questions about what she thought her first day of Kindergarten would be like.
I asked, "What do you think you'll do on your first day of school?"
Her somewhat distracted reply, "I don't know, probably have a parade or something."
Keeping her answer in mind and with high hopes of a spectacular parade report, I could hardly contain my questioning when she came home from school the next day. I eagerly asked, "How did it go? How was school?"
Bekah replied with a bit of indignation, "We didn't even have a parade today! I think there should always be a parade on the first day of Kindergarten."
I'm inclined to agree. I don't think there is any better way to celebrate the beginning of an illustrious academic career, is there? Happily, other than the parade disappointment, everything else went well on her first day and she eagerly went to bed knowing she would be going back to school the next morning. I'm so glad she had a positive first experience.

It's our first trip to the bus stop! Bekah, Loyd and Xavier waiting for the bus to come.
("Hail to the bus driver, bus driver. Hail to the bus driver, bus driver woman.....")
This week Bekah also took her very first dance class. She looks so adorable in her little outfit. It is too cute to watch all the little girls in their pink outfits and dainty slippers float and spin around the little mirrored room. After class, Bekah declared that she wanted to go to dance class every day. Sadly, she has to settle for just once a week.
Not to be outdone by his big sister's exciting week of firsts, Xavier had an important first event of his very own. This week he slept in a big boy bed all by himself for the first time this week. We took down the crib and moved him into a comfortable, little toddler bed. He loves the freedom of getting out of bed under his own steam and smiles like a villain when we tuck him in at night. He's the first kid out of our three to realize what fun stuff can be done with this new freedom of movement. The first night, he and Loyd played toys and ran around their room until 10:30PM, and then passed out on the floor. The second night, Xavier woke up at midnight and decided it would be a perfect time to run around the house and slam doors. We had to put him back to bed three times that night. Each morning he runs with sheer joy into my bedroom to demand breakfast as soon as the sun crosses the horizon. Other than those silly incidences of freedom exploration, we haven't had much trouble from him. Hopefully Xavier got it all out of his system and he can settle back down into his regular sleep schedule. Silly baby.
Bonus: Feeling a little under represented, here are Loyd and Xavier drying off and chilling out after playing in a much needed, gratefully received rainstorm we enjoyed this week. Yea for rain!
