Week of Firsts

It has been a full week of new beginnings for us, especially for Rebekah. She began her first week of Kindergarten on Monday. She loved every moment and has taken to academic life like a fish to water. She has a wonderful teacher and some very nice new friends in her class. She is especially fond of lunch time. She can hardly wait to tell me what she ate for lunch each afternoon as she gets off the bus and walks home. I'm very proud of my baby girl! The night before school started I asked her some questions about what she thought her first day of Kindergarten would be like. I asked, "What do you think you'll do on your first day of school?" Her somewhat distracted reply, "I don't know, probably have a parade or something." Keeping her answer in mind and with high hopes of a spectacular parade report, I could hardly contain my questioning when she came home from school the next day. I eagerly asked, "How did it go? How was school?

Last Week of Freedom

This week we tried to make good use of our last week of summer vacation before school starts. We started our week with a play date with one of our friends. There was a lot of train playing and running around with pillow pet friends. Then on Tuesday we had a fun day at Space Center playing on the sports exhibits and meeting more friends. Loyd especially loved the trampoline basketball court and Bekah got pretty good with the virtual reality basketball game. (Maybe there is hope for a future basketball scholarship for her.) They all had fun playing in the three story climbing play structure and shooting the Nerf ball guns. On Wednesday and Thursday we managed to squeeze in two beach days. We loved playing in the sand and the surf. Loyd even found a pet crab to bring home. His new crabby friend likes to sit on the bedroom dresser and watch Loyd while he sleeps. (Don't worry, it's an empty crab shell. No actual wildlife is monitoring my son's dreams.) Xavier

Art Update

It's been hotter then you-know-where this week. The beach was unexpectedly closed the day we had planned to go and there are just so many trips to the library a person can make in one week. So, as a result the kids have been feeling a bit trapped inside this week. I didn't manage to get any fun pictures of the kids arguing and laying around the house letting me know how bored they were every two or three minutes. I just couldn't get any great shots that captured the moment. Sorry. Instead, I thought I would share some of the fun pictures Bekah has been creating for us. Bekah's Primary teacher has been inspired to ask the kids each week to draw a picture of their thoughts and feelings regarding the theme of each Sunday lesson. This has been a great way for Bekah to internalize the lessons she is hearing each week while letting her practice her art skills. She loves to draw and create. It's been wonderful to see some of the things she comes up with
