Marvels of Transporation Technology

Image
Over Spring Break we made it over to Space Center to check out the space shuttle replica Independence and the historic NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft.  It was so cool to tour through them both, learning more about the NASA Shuttle program, and remembering when we saw the last flight of the NASA 905 just after Maeve was born and Grandma was visiting to help with the new baby.  It flew the Endeavor over Houston for the last time in 2012.  ***** Our little green Toyota Camry has made it past the 200,000 mile mark!  This amazing little car has been through a lot with our family.  It has driven me through college, as a newly wed at BYU, to my first post-college job at Zenger-Folkman, and it drove us to the hospital for the births of all 5 of our beautiful children.  It moved our young family across the country from Utah to beautiful League City, Texas as Dustin took his first teaching job with CCISD.  It drove Dustin and I to our first apartment home as a young married couple,

Owen the Artistic Soul

Owen loves to paint, color, and of course, play the piano.  He even does Zumba in his free time and he hears a dancing beat.  ;)  We are loving this quiet, artistic little soul.  :)

We have a Wolf!

Loyd worked very hard his first month as a Cub Scout and was able to earn his first rank advancement.  He received his Bobcat badge at our first Pack Meeting.  I am so proud of how hard Loyd worked and that he met his goal.  His Den Leader said he completed the advancement requirements for Bobcat faster than anyone else she has ever seen.  Way to go, son! Now we get to have the fun of working toward his Wolf badge!  (Thank goodness for amazing Den leaders who are walking us through this process.  :D )

It's that time of year again for the 2nd Grade Living Museum at Ferguson.  The students each picked a hero from history to learn about and then prepared a 30 second speech to give while dressed up like their hero.  Loyd was torn as to who he should pick.  He admires so many amazing people like Martin Luther King, Jr., Louis Armstrong, and Rosa Parks.  Finally, he settled on Thomas Alva Edison. Here is Loyd sharing his memorized presentation on the great inventor:   "My name is Thomas Edison.  I was born on February 11, 1847.  I love inventing things.  I love it so much, in fact, that my nickname is the Wizard of Menlo Park.  I believe in working hard, and I am not afraid to take chances or fail.  I have come up with more than 1,000 inventions in my lifetime.  Some of my most famous inventions include the phonograph, an improved light bulb, and the first movie camera.  So, the next time you listen to a song on your MP3 player, go to the movies, or switch on a light, remem

Houston, We Have a Walker!

Saturday night, March 6th, Owen took his first steps on his own to get to his bath.  Now he is a regular walking pro, able to navigate the house and yard with just a few tumbles forward.  But, he's a trooper and always gets back up to try again without any fuss.  Yea, Baby Owen for working so hard to walk!
