Loyd's Quiz

Image
You know your dad is a teacher when you starting getting quizzes during time out.  Loyd had to get at least a passing grade before Dustin would let him come out of his room.  Good thing Loyd got a 75% on his first try.  Can you guess what problem behaviors we were hoping to address with this timeout?  I just love the honesty of his thoughts on the answers of some of these questions, and I love the insights Dustin showed into his son's mind when writing up the questions for his quiz.  Note: All possible answers were based on actual events. ***** Loyd's answers are highlighted in RED .   Page 1 (Front) Loyd's Quiz        26 Jul 2015 1. Super Readers

This summer we have all been busy participating in 3 Summer Reading Programs sponsored by our local libraries - Freeman-Memorial Branch Library, Helen Hall Library, and Ferguson Elementary Library.  We have had a wonderful time reading many, many, many good books, attending exciting special library programs, and enjoying our fun prizes.  Yea for my super readers! Rebekah, Loyd, Xavier, and Meave had fun touching some interesting animals at a few of the library programs this year.  Here's a few pictures of the kids checking out a cute baby alligator.  Mind the little fingers, please.  :) Xavier was really excited to get his picture with Captain America.  He told me that Captain America is his favorite super hero.  I love his patriotic choice.   And of course, no summer would be complete without attending the end of summer Super Readers library party at Helen Hall Library.  The kids love riding the small city train around the parking lot every year.  It's th

Temporary Pet and Art Fun

Loyd and Xavier caught one of our local small, wild lizards and set up a pretty good cage for it in their room.  They evened remembered to put a flashlight on top to give their little lizard buddy a heat lamp.  Unfortunately, the flashlight they picked for the job was an LED one.  :D  Silly kids.  :) We let the kids hang out with their little pet for an hour or so and then insisted they release him back into the wild.  I am not going to buy bugs to feed to this little lizard, who should be outside earning his keep eating mosquitoes for us anyway.  :)   ***** This week we had the fun opportunity to go to the Houston Museum of Art.  It was so much fun to walk around looking at all of the amazing works of art from around the world.  Among countless priceless and beautiful objects, we saw beautifully carved statues from India, an awesome mural that wrapped all the way around a room painted in a gun powder explosion, delicate china cups from Japan, and enthralling paintings fro

BOOM! Beach Day!!!

Image
This week we had the perfect day for a beach day.  We went to our favorite beach, with some of our favorite friends, enjoyed some of the best water and sunshine, and then came home to some great naps. BOOM!  Beach Day! Owen, taking a moment to contemplate the beauty of the beach, or maybe just trying not to fall asleep during his regularly scheduled nap time.  :) I had a really  hard time getting any face shots of Owen because he was so interested in the wet sand.  When I first plopped him down in the squishy sand he wiggled his tiny feet and then shot me the biggest, happiest smile you have ever seen on a baby.  He LOVED the feel of the sand squishing between his toes.  What a fun day for this little guy.  :) Maeve enjoyed dumping sand on her baby brother's feet and legs.  Good thing Owen didn't seem to mind this game of "bury the baby."
