It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Maeve catching a nap whenever and wherever she can.
After a busy and exciting summer we have found ourselves exhausted and ready for school to start so we can get into our regular schedule again.

On Monday morning we all woke up bright and early and excited to get ready for the first day of School.  Rebekah is returning as a 2nd Grader this year, Loyd is beginning his formal academic career as a Kindergartener, and starting in October Xavier will get to go to preschool!

We made it through our first morning back to school.  Everyone got up and dressed on time.  I only burned 2 batches of waffles.  We got out to the car with time to spare, and Xavier, Maeve and I walked Loyd and Rebekah to class.

Rebekah was quiet, but excited.  I think she was happy to go back to school, but she was a bit nervous for the first day and learning classroom rules for a new teacher.  She is in the same class as one of her best friends from last year and quickly found a seat by her buddy.  That helped a lot.  Her teacher has a kind, loving way about her that will be a great fit for my perceptive little girl.  Rebekah has an unusual class this year in the fact that there are only 7 girls and 15 boys.  Bekah's teacher has a fun year ahead of her.  :)

Rebekah is enjoying her class so far, but she is realizing that she is a terrible speller.  It's making her a bit self conscious about writing.  I'm afraid she has my spelling genes.  I've ordered her a children's dictionary and it should be here by Tuesday.  I guess there is no time like the present to learn how to use a dictionary.  :)

Loyd was a bit more nervouse about his first day of school.  We said an extra prayer on the way out the door, and I gave him a big hug and kiss at his desk.  I introduced him to the other kids at his table and reluctantly left while he sat stock still, biting his nails, and trying really hard not to cry.  His teacher passed out a little coloring page where the kids could circle a face showing how they feel on the first day of school.  Loyd circled all of them.  He felt happy, scared, excited, and nervous all at the same time.  What a bundle of emotions for such a little guy.  No worries though, he enthusiastically told me all about his great day at school when he hopped off the bus in the afternoon.  He is especially jazzed that his teacher pulls out a guitar and sings fun songs like, "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly," with her class every day.  Yea for kindergarten!

On the second day of school, when I woke Loyd up the first thing out of his mouth was, "Yea!  Finally I get get to go back to Kindergarten!"  He has a great teacher and he is having a lot of fun already learning to read and write.  He is having so much fun, in fact, that when Loyd came home from school on Thursday he confidently declared that the school day had been shorter.  I guess he had so much fun at school that the time just flew by.  I also found several packages of unopened ketchup smuggled home in his pants pocket.  He's such a Cornelius sometimes.  A Cornelius just can't turn down free ketchup.  ;)

Xavier is very disappointed he didn't get to go to school on Monday too, but I managed to distract him with waffles and watching WALL-E.  He is quickly discovering the benefits and joys of having the house all to himself with just me and Maeve to hang out with.  Xavier and I are having wonderful, quiet days together.  So far we have done my Visiting Teaching, gone to the park, visited Space Center, watched some movies, and read lots of fun book in bed.  He's such a sweet little boy.

We've also discovered this week that we may need to relocate the snacks.  What do you think?  :)

Maeve packing some heat: Nothing accessorizes a cute little denim dress like a water gun in the back pocket. :)
Maeve took 4 steps all by herself Thursday!  She's finally to the point where she is realizing the world of possibilities walking opens up to her over crawling everywhere.  We're so close!

She has also starting giving everyone High-5s, waving whenever anyone enters or leaves a room, and squealing with uncontainable delight when she sees cheese.  Cheese has come to be known around our house as "Baby Crack" because of Maeve's need to eat any and all cheese that she sees.  It is precious to her.  :)

Dustin loves it when his sweet baby girl happily waves him a welcome home greeting as he walks through the door after work.  There are few things as sweet as her big, toothy grin and her sweet little giggles of delight.  Maeve is also now the proud owner of 3 teeth!  She has two beaver-teeth on top and one little tooth coming up on the bottom.  We love that she can start chewing some food with those sharp chompers.  Yum!

Happy back to school!
