First Soccer Practice
Our first soccer practice was this week and the kids were filled to brimming with excitement. Rebekah made sure she and Loyd ate a healthy breakfast and lunch so they would have enough energy to be super stars at practice. Everyone got their gear on in plenty of time to drive over to the field. Everyone was all giggles and smiles and wiggles and jumps as we got ready to go.
Even though he isn't on a team this year, Xavier felt he needed soccer socks, shoes and a ball too. He was so excited he could hardly sit still long enough to pull his very long socks up. The kids decided their cleats make them run, jump, and rider their bikes at much faster and higher degrees than previously possible in their regular shoes. Makes sense to me.
Rebekah did a great job running through the drills and listening to her coach. I think she will do quite well in soccer. She is enthusiastic and it won't take too much from her time to enjoy this new hobby.
Loyd valiantly battled his inner rebelliousness toward authority figures. I could see his inner battle. Every time the coach asked him to run a drill Loyd's natural instinct was to do the opposite. However, with a grate deal of desire and time he was able to valiantly battled with himself and do what the coach asked. This will be a great opportunity for him to practice following someone else's lead. Silly Loyd. He'll be a great leader some day. :) (PS: I think he may only be in this for the treats. What do you think?)
Xavier was heart broken when he realized he was too little to play on Rebekah and Loyd's team. Thankfully I was able to kick the ball around with him on the side lines until another little boy joined the game and then we all had fun. He loves to be part of a team. I just love his enthusiasm for life and new experiences.
This pretty much sums up how everyone felt about starting the Spring soccer season. :)

Rebekah is getting to be quite a good reader. She loves to read to her little sister. Maeve loves the reading time together too. Ah, it is moments like these that make my little librarian heart sing. :)
