Memorial Day at the Beach

After living 45 min away from the beach for nearly a year and a half we finally made it there today! It was perfect beach weather and everything. The waves were small and slow, it wasn't too hot or too cold, and the water was around 70 degrees. We got there early enough that the beach wasn't crowded yet and we stayed until after lunch. That's when the crowds started to show up.

Loyd took to the water right away. He got out of the car and headed straight for the surf. He began an expert bucket filler and pusher of the sand wagon.

The kids also loved wading out into the water and watching the fish jump and the birds fly down and catch them. Loyd could hold his own against the waves but every once in a while one would catch him by surprise and knock him over. He was a good sport about it and got up with a grin.

Bekah hunted lots of seashells and filled her little bucket to overflowing a few times. I guess you could call her the family shell expert.

As we drove up to the beach Rebekah wasn't so sure she wanted to swim in such a large amount of water. She kept saying nervously, "I swim in little water Momma." When we got there she held my hand for about 5 minutes and then she let go and ran in the sand and water for the next 5 hours without hesitation. We had to drag her away when we were ready to go. On the drive home she proudly declared, "I swim in the big water by myself!"

This is what a morning at the beach looks like on the care ride home. Loyd passed out after 5 mins.

Bekah was a trooper and maintained conscienceness for 15 minuets before she passed out.

Happy Memorial Day!

That looks like a fun time! I didn't realize how close you were to the beach! THat is great. I would be scared out of my mind to have Brooklyn play in the "big water" all by herself. Brave momma!
