Blanding!!!!!
Summer Family trip to Blanding!! We had the best time staying at a super cool cabin in the Abajo mountains outside of Monticello. We brought Grandma Phillips along for the adventure fun again too! It was our family vacation dream team. :D
This time around Dustin took the big kids on some mountain bike trails on the Abajo bike trail system.
We visited the local San Juan county libraries and were able to donate the book I compiled on my Grandad Loyd Young and the book he wrote on his dad, William Lorenzo Young, to the San Juan County Historical Society, Monticello County Library Local History Special Collections, and the Utah State University South Eastern Campus Library. It was so amazing that we could get my Grandad's books into an academic library for everyone to learn about him and his amazing family and the contributions they made to the people and landscape of San Juan County.
We hiked the entire 2+ mile loop around Loyd's lake. Well, Dustin ended up carrying a sleeping Diana for the last half mile of the hike. He's one amazing dad! What lucky kids.
We went to Mesa Verde and were awed by the ancient history and ingenuity of the ancient peoples.
We hikes and drove around Natural Bridges National Monument. Owen and John even became official Junior Park Rangers! They were sworn in by the best park ranger ever. She was a retired school teacher from Maine living her lifelong dream of working as a season park ranger all across America. How cool is that!
After a long and dusty drive we made it to Four Corners National Monument where we dutifully got our picture taken while standing in four different states at the same time. Then, we enjoyed authentic Native American Fry Bread and honey. In the parking lot Owen found a Navajo necklace. When we tried to give it to a lost and found we were told by a very kind Dine woman that it had found him and was meant to bring him luck. He was excited he could keep it and it did prove pretty lucky!
We hiked, we biked, we bummed around the cool cabin. Best week of the summer ever!
We LOVE San Juan County!

Natural Bridges National Monument where Owen and John became authentic, real live Junior Park Rangers and we went on an epic hike to Sipapu Bridge. Hopi religious mythology believes it is a place where there is an opening between two worlds. Also, John clearly won the silly face contest. :P
Ironic sign from the drive. :P
