To My Favorite Fellow Cast-Aways

The kids have been coming up with new games of pretend to play. I get a kick out of listening to the stories they come up with and the things they pretend to be. One day as they were playing in the living room their game sounded shockingly familiar to me, even though it was a new game for the kids. Their pretend game was almost identical to a favorite pretend game my sisters and I would play during the summer, "Cast-Away Ocean Voyaging Orphans."

Our game was quite a tragic story. My sisters and I, the oldest orphans at the local orphanage, learned that we had to escape from some evil bad guys who were out to steal the orphans and make them work in the local mine. (We watched a lot of Dickens, Heidi, and other stories of heroism.) We bravely gathered all the other children (our dolls and stuffed animals) and secretly loaded them onto a boat (the living room couch) for our great escape. Then the adventure began. This ill fated ocean voyage would be beset by storms, hungry sharks, and many almost sinking events of our trusty ship. Our only hope was to never touch the water (the floor). At last we would make it to the safety of a new home or it would be dinner time. It was quite the brave feat for three orphaned sisters and their boat full of orphaned friends.

I guess it's time for a new generation to embark on their own adventure filled living room ocean voyages. Happy cruising kids, and remember never ever to touch the floor or the sharks may eat your feet!

This is another new game we play at hour house. It's called, "Tell Xavier to Go to Time-Out and Make Him Giggle." It's pretty self explanatory.

Step1: Xavier sits in time out, smiles at us and then gets out to tell us he wants us to tell him to go to time out.

Step2: We tell Xavier to go to time out, per his request.

Step 3: Xavier runs to the time-out chair giggling and sits in it with a huge grin.

Step 4: Xavier pops out of the chair and waits for us to tell him to go to time-out again.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until someone gets bored.

Xavier made time-out look so fun that Loyd actually went for his disciplinary timeout like we asked. But not quite in the way we had intended....

Hi Audrey! I hope you guys are doing well. Xavier is adorable! I also read from last week you are studying for the GRE - sounds like you're thinking about school? How fun! Good luck with the test!
Ha ha... I like that our pretend game is being revisited by some new and improved orphans!
